Marco Fishing (Pty) Ltd is a company based in the harbour town of Lüderitz in the South of Namibia with a premium quality focussed approach to catching, processing and marketing both fresh and frozen products to mainly European markets.
Our recently upgraded and EU certified factory uses modern freezing processes to produce a wide range of frozen products and, together with our experienced workforce, we also process and ship fresh prime quality (PQ) Hake to our customers.
Our fleet of dedicated longline vessels enables us to maintain a consistent supply of premium quality line-caught seafood products to our factory.
We place a high premium on preserving our integrity in dealing with our workforce, government, customers and other business stakeholders.
Marco Fishing (Pty) Ltd started operating in the hake longline sector in 1994 after it was granted a hake fishing right by the Namibian government. From modest beginnings it grew over the years into a well-established and empowered company. Marco Fishing operates out of Lüderitz and uses the specialized longline method to catch high quality cape hake mainly for the European market.
The company had a small beginning with a Tuna concession and one small wooden vessel. During the early years diversification was key, but our Hake right has always remained our main focus, developing our reputation as a consistent supplier of high quality fresh and frozen longline hake to the European markets. To date Marco Fishing remains the only Lüderitz based company still exporting prime quality longline hake.
Gutted PQ hake is longline caught in the Southern Atlantic (FAO 47), processed on land and packed in polystyrene boxes manufactured on site.
Catches are predominantly from the southern Namibian waters and as a result are bigger in size Cape Hake (Merluccius capensis/paradoxus).
All hand descaled and filleted. Any packaging requirement can be accommodated with skin-on or skinless, plate frozen or individually quick frozen (IQF).
These include: Cape Hake fillets, Cape Hake loins, steaks, bellies, tails, moulded loins, married fillets, mince blocks.
We’ve built up a fleet of vessels specialised for harvesting its hake fishing rights. Today the fleet consists of 5 vessels with 1 steel, 1 wooden and 3 purpose-built fibre glass vessels.
Marco Fishing (Pty) Ltd operates four dedicated hake longline vessels out of the harbour town of Lüderitz with an additional vessel which is operated from Walvis Bay.
Lüderitz , being far from any major centre, and with limited available services to the fishing industry, required being self-sufficient. The land-based infrastructure developed over the years includes investment in the company’s own ice bunker, polystyrene box manufacturing plant, and cold stores.
Since 2016 the company embarked on a factory process improvement and expansion program which saw the factory floor areas doubled and additional processing lines introduced. The Factory upgrade was largely driven by the focus on value addition and the ability to produce niche market products of the highest quality. New Individually Quick-Frozen technology was introduced, glazing and skinning lines added, and new and enhanced plate freezing were upgraded to be able to fully utilize the high quality fresh longline hake landed in Lüderitz.
We are a proud Lüderitz community member and as such the focus of our social responsibility contributions are on food security, youth training, sport development, and supporting the elderly and the vulnerable in the immediate areas.
During the past number of years the company has supported more than 20 students to fulfil their studies through assistance with tuition fees, registration fees and other financial support.
The company supports several community and school feeding schemes in the town through financial donations, fish, and food parcels. Schools also rely on the company for support for annual prize giving and events to celebrate the achievements of their learners.
